Head of School Message | A message of Gratitude

Dear St. Edmund's Academy Community,

I often think of Emily Dickinson's suggestion that,

"Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all.

Across our campus at St. Edmund's Academy, hope surges within and among us.

Whenever Preschool children respect each other's feelings, we see hope.  Whenever Kindergarten children understand and appreciate each other's differences, we see hope.  Whenever Third Graders take responsibility for their conduct and insist on honesty in their relationships, we see hope.  Wherever Fifth Graders rise to increasingly high standards and Eighth Graders recognize the worthiness of service to others, we see hope.

When we see a record number of individuals supporting St. Edmund's Academy on our Day of Giving, we see hope.  As the most racially and socioeconomically diverse independent school in the City of Pittsburgh, we choose hope over cynicism.  We embrace our responsibility to each other and cherish the opportunity to shape the world through our collective action.

Inspired by our students' commitment to live with a clear sense of purpose guided by our Core Values, this community believes that rather than reflecting the world as it is, we may come together to model what it could be.  In the storybook of our students lives, we can give them the opportunity and inspiration to rewrite the chapters of deferred dreams into realized triumphs.

Doing so takes all of us.  Thank you for showing up and being there for each other.  Thank you for taking a moment to know the families in your child's class.  Thank you for the wisdom you show to see similarities across your differences and differences within your similarities.  Thank you for recognizing that our culture of inclusivity and belonging, like the thing with feathers that perches in the soul, starts within each of us.

Thank you for supporting St. Edmund's Academy.

Truly,
Chad
