At St. Edmund’s Academy, we recognize technology’s complicated influence in our children's lives. That's why we humbly and hopefully introduce
A St. Edmund's Academy Initiative to Digital Wellness for School and Home
This initiative strives to unite the St. Edmund’s Academy community to protect our children from the pervasive risks of addictive technologies connecting children to all forms of information and each other.

Our preschool to eighth-grade configuration uniquely positions us to provide a longer runway for childhood, ensuring our children are prepared for the world without being rushed into it. Thriving Together aims to establish community standards that steer children away from screen-centered lives, course-correcting away from experiences associated with unprecedented anxiety, depression, and distraction for this generation of children.

Facing a collective action problem, we invite trustees, parents, alumni, teachers, and students to volunteer for this effort. Whether you're passionate about wellness, research, student engagement, communication, or outreach, there's an opportunity to contribute. Volunteers can expect to dedicate about 5 hours to this initiative.

Opportunities to Contribute

There are several ways to contribute to the success of Thriving Together. Within each of the volunteer groups, we will need:
  • Primary Engagers: These volunteers lead their respective Thriving Together Teams.  They can count on dedicating 5 to 15 hours to the cause between now and the start of school this fall. They will attend 2 to 3 meetings, review documents, provide feedback, evaluate options, and actively participate in decision-making.
  • Contributing Collaborators: These volunteers play a crucial role in shaping the initiative through their insights and contributions, dedicating between 2 and 6 hours to the cause between now and the start of school in the fall. While not required to attend every meeting, they actively generate ideas, provide feedback, and contribute to discussions. Their involvement is essential for guiding the initiative's direction.

  • Explorers & Researchers

Get involved in our initiative by becoming part of our team of research volunteers. In this role, you'll lead quality control studies focused on understanding the challenges our children encounter in today's digital environment. By collecting and analyzing internal data, we'll evaluate Thriving Together’s effectiveness, ensuring the initiative’s favorable influence.
  • Student Allies

We're looking for individuals who can bridge the gap between Thriving Together's goals and our students' perspectives. Help us ensure our children have a voice in identifying hazards and establishing safety measures. You'll collaborate to gather and analyze student insights, informing our priorities.
  • Parent Connectors

Join us in keeping parents informed and engaged in our digital wellness priorities. You'll help design communication strategies, troubleshoot family awareness & understanding, and ensure every parent feels empowered to support their child's wellbeing within our community.
  • Community Ambassadors

Become a champion for change by spreading the word about our initiative! As part of this team, you'll connect with media, government officials, and public figures to amplify our message. Your efforts will raise awareness beyond our school, highlighting the importance of balanced technology use in raising resilient, empathetic, and self-controlled children.
  • Creators & Innovators

Let's bring our vision to life! If you're passionate about supporting engaging educational experiences and influencing our priorities, your perspective will matter here.  By refining emerging priorities, you will help identify and secure the resources necessary to create unique St. Edmund’s Academy experiences that inspire our students to thrive, embracing friendships and developing self-worth in life off the screen.
