Nothing Middling About SEA Upper Schoolers
In our community, middle schoolers don’t get overshadowed; they shine. In fact, we call them Upper Schoolers, because they are not stuck in the middle of anything. They mentor younger students, lead school-wide initiatives, and serve as campus role models, building confidence, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility. At a time in life when many kids feel uncertain or insecure, it is life-changing to live this kind of leadership. At SEA, children thrive without the social pressures of a high school environment, building character and poise. They’re not rushing to grow up—they’re growing into themselves.
One Campus, One Community
Our smaller grade span creates a neighborly atmosphere where older and younger students truly have the opportunity to know each other. Younger students have all sorts of friendly older students to look up to, and older students rise to the occasion. These bonds deepen the sense of community and create leadership opportunities across the years. Even First Graders are mentors to Pre-Kindergarteners. Buddy classes come together for activities throughout the school year, and attend each others’ performances. These relationships extend beyond the classroom and after graduation.

We support each family through a two-year, personalized secondary school placement process. We know our students—and we know Pittsburgh’s high school landscape.
