Without high school students to overshadow them, St. Edmund’s Academy students grow as self-confident leaders of the school—in the classroom, in athletic endeavors, and in a variety of extracurricular settings. These activities open doors for students to try a new experience, tackle a challenge, or discover talents they didn’t know they had. Students have the freedom to explore their interests with the support of enthusiastic sponsors who can guide, challenge, and encourage students in their pursuits. At St. Edmund’s Academy, we believe that a child’s interests can become their passion, and that these formative experiences can help them grow into the uniquely gifted people they are.

The list of extracurricular activities is an evolving one, depending on student interest. Students are encouraged to brainstorm and collaborate on potential new opportunities.

  • Q: SEA Wolf (Grades 5 – 8)

    SEA Wolf is the St. Edmund’s Academy magazine, which is published three times/year and distributed to over 2,100 homes, including current families, alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school and published online as well. Staff members work with supervisors to report on St. Edmund’s Academy news, think creatively about article presentation, conduct interviews, and identify human interest stories in the school community. Students can apply for positions as a Staff Writer, Art Director, Photographer, and Editor-in-Chief. More information about SEA Wolf can be found here: [LINK}
  • Q: Athletics (Grades 2 - 8)

  • Q: Future City (Grades 5 – 8)

    Students in Grades 5-8 can participate on the school’s Future City Team, which is a cross-curricular competition that teaches students the engineering design process and build their 21st century skills. Students utilize science, math, and engineering knowledge to create cities that might exist at least 100 years in the future. They gain valuable experience designing with computers, building scale models, researching, writing, and speaking in public. The school team then competes against other schools in the regional competition, held in January, for potential progress to the national competition.
  • Q: Geography Bee (Grades 4 – 8)

    Students in Grades 4 – 8 can participate in the National Geography Bee—a competition in which students are asked a series of questions about local, national, and world geography. Students with top scores progress to a finalist round, and the winner earns the privilege of testing for qualification at the state level competition.
  • Q: MathCounts (Grades 6-8)

    The MathCounts program inspires excellence, confidence, and curiosity in 6th – 8th grade students through fun and challenging math program. MathCounts provides the extra incentive for students to push themselves to achieve more in mathematics. Consisting of fun and creative problems that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, MathCounts competitions consist of written and oral rounds, as well as individual and team components.
  • Q: Debate Club (Grades 5 - 8)

    Spurred by student interest, Upper School students now have the chance to discuss issues weighing on their minds while learning about different ways to structure an argument and various forms of conversation.  Debate club is a fun way to speak your mind, listen to others, and be prepared for future intelligent conversations.
  • Q: Spelling Bee (Grades 5 – 8)

    Students in Grades 5-8 can participate in the Upper School spelling bee to improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn new concepts, and develop proper English usage that will help them throughout their lives. Once the St. Edmund’s spelling champion has been determined, that student competes at the local level and ultimately works to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

    Students interested in sharing and extending their familiarity and affinity for the Dr. Who—the popular BBC television program.  Students analyze current episodes, read and discuss ?????, and share a collective enjoyment of the series.
