Extended Day Program
Extended Day students are separated into two groups. Children in Preschool through Kindergarten meet in the Early Childhood Center at dismissal. Children in 1st – 6th grades are dismissed to the cafeteria where they all enjoy a snack. The younger children with no homework can enjoy the play deck, if the weather permits, in the Early Childhood Center, or in the gym. Older students with homework can either work in groups in the cafeteria or in the quiet of a separate homework room. Extended Day staff members supervise the completion of homework and can provide some learning support. Students who have music instruction or formal tutoring outside of Extended Day are escorted to their lessons at the appropriate times and can return to Extended Day upon completion. Once children have completed their homework, they are excused to the play deck, gym, the cafeteria for games, crafts, or reading, the library for technology use, or the auditorium where movies are occasionally shown. Extended Day staff members make every attempt to take children outside to play every day. In the winter, students with boots, a warm jacket, and appropriate outdoor accessories can play outside unless it’s extremely cold, and they even enjoy playing in the snow with appropriate weatherproof gear.
