FAME Scholar Program

St. Edmund's Academy is proud to partner with the Fund for Advancement of Minorities Through Education (FAME) of Pittsburgh in their mission to "educate, empower, and embolden African American youth to become student ambassadors of today, leaders of tomorrow, and stewards of their communities."  Students entering Grades 3-5 are eligible to be considered for the prestigious FAME Scholar program at St. Edmund's Academy, provided the family meets the FAME guidelines for financial need.  Additional information about the FAME Scholar program can be found on their website at

Students applying to St. Edmund's with hopes of entering as a FAME Scholar follow the exact same process outlined on our admissions page for all applicants, but with earlier deadlines.  All prospective FAME Scholar files must be complete with the online application, school records, teacher recommendation forms,  and student visit by February 1, 2019 in order to be considered for the 2019-2020 school year.  Students must also take the admissions assessment on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  The Admissions Office then provides the list of accepted candidates to FAME, who then begins their interview and selection process.  Families will receive final decisions from FAME in March/April 2019.
A valuable resource to students and families at St. Edmund's Academy is our Liaison for Inclusivity, Taylor Hollins.  Taylor supports the FAME program as our FAME Liaison and works with families during their transition to our school and throughout students' tenure here.  Originally hailing from Long Beach, CA, Taylor attended the University of San Diego where she majored in Sociology and minored in Public Relations.  Her educational background prepared her for working with children and adults alike, and her study of the connections between individuals and the larger society make her well-suited for this work that links education, equality, family structures and societal connections.  In addition to her work in this role, she is also an Assistant Teacher in our Kindergarten program and she coaches high school volleyball at Obama Academy.
