Advantages
The PreK through 8 school program provides leadership opportunities
for Upper School students and gives positive role models to the younger students
they mentor. Classes are small, typically 15 to 17 students. Teachers
work as teams to create projects that cover several disciplines.
World
cultures starts in first grade and sets the stage for foreign languages that
begin in the fifth grade. St. Edmund’s Academy students typically score among
the top students in the country in foreign languages, due in part to faculty
members who have been with St. Edmund’s Academy for nearly 30 years. St.
Edmund’s Academy is a fully wired campus. Computers provide the latest tools
in every classroom. Each classroom has computers for student and teacher usage. A main computer instructional lab includes 17 brand new Dell computers with Internet connection and a multitude of software. An additional Mac lab has 19 G4 computers. In addition to these labs, there are two mobile labs with 20 Dell laptops in each cart. These labs are used in the traditional classroom for Grades 5 - 8. Students participate in technology projects including interactive Power Point projects, website design, word processing assignments, Internet research and validation, and projects using photos, music, and video. Many 8th graders test out of 9th grade
computer classes; some have passed college proficiency computer tests.
Girls
and boys sports teams excel in basketball, field hockey and more. Sports are offered throughout the school year, giving St. Edmund's Academy students the opportunity to participate in fall, winter, and spring sports.
Overnight
field trips for sixth through eighth graders bring academics alive. In addition to the overnight trips, various day trips are scheduled throughout the year for all class levels. The field trips offer an alternative, innovative, and hands-on experience to students of all ages.
In addition to these activities, St. Edmund's Academy offers a wide variety of activities for students with different strengths and interests. These include the school musical, the DestiNation Imagination, chorus, band, and clubs. Co-ed by design, St. Edmund’s Academy
helps boys and girls learn skills to work together and build strong relationships.
