Middle (Grades 5-8)
Overview
Fifth grade:
Fifth grade is a transition year between the self-contained classrooms of the
Lower School, and the department-lead classes for the Upper School. Fifth grade
students have two core faculty members who teach math, language arts, and social
studies. Specialty teachers teach computer, science, physical education, Spanish
or French, art, music, library and an option for instrumental music (small group
instruction), band, orchestra and chorus. Fifth grade traditionally travels
to a Ligonier, PA, science/nature reserve.
Sixth grade:
The curriculum includes math or pre-algebra, English, computer, world history, earth science,
physical education, French or Spanish, art, music, library, health and an option
for instrumental music (small group instruction), band, orchestra and chorus.
Seventh grade:
The curriculum includes pre-algebra or algebra, English, computer, U.S. history, physical
science, physical education,Latin, Spanish or French, art, Comparative Religions,
and an option for instrumental music (small group instruction), band, orchestra
and chorus.
Eighth grade:
The curriculum includes elementary algebra, algebra I, or geometry, English, computer,
U.S. history, life science, physical education, Latin, French or Spanish,
art, Comparative Religions, and an option for instrumental music (small
group instruction), band, and orchestra, as well as chorus.
