Beyond The Classroom

Traditional Events

St. Edmund’s Academy enjoys a long history of many rich traditions.

The most important is its weekly Chapel service held at the Church of the Redeemer next to the school. The 45-minute service brings together the school community, and includes a celebration of the many ways that students in grades one through eight have demonstrated the school’s core values in the previous week.

St. Edmund’s Academy Day, a special Chapel service, honors St. Edmund, the Anglican saint and is held the first Thursday Chapel service in November.

Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, hosted by the PreK and Kindergarten classes, is held in the fall. The students sing songs for their guests and share a special snack.

The Christmas Pageant is a seasonal play for the holidays performed by the Upper School students.

The Great Event raises money for the school’s programs with a themed dinner and auction.

Field Day celebrates the end of the school year with a day of outside fun and sports.

Moving Up Day occurs at a special end-of-year Chapel service, in which eighth graders pass on their hymnals to first graders for the next year, and each grade “moves up” to the next level.

Graduation marks the last official event in the life of a St. Edmund's Academy student. Held in the adjacent Church of the Redeemer on the last day of the school year, the ceremony highlights each graduating student's accomplishments and extra-curricular participation throughout his/her years at the school. This significant celebration is followed by a reception in the Field House for parents, relatives, friends, and next year’s eighth graders.
